Andrew is an
energetic and respected 400m runner who has represented his country at
most major competitions since 2005. He races as an individual and as
part of the 4x400m relay team and is a talented athlete, improving his
PB and World Ranking year-on-year. At 25 years old he is one to watch for
the London 2012 Olympics.
Andrew had a successful junior career
and made the jump to the professional ranks by winning the National
Championships in 2007. He made the Semi Final at the 2008 Beijing
Olympics and led off the 4x400m relay team who missed out on a medal by
0.6 seconds. His 2009 season was curtailed by injury however his sights
remain focused on London 2012 and an opportunity to win a medal in front of
his home crowd. Away from the track Andrew is a talented
musician and can boast producing No 1 singles in a handful of African
countries. He is the son of GMTV’s resident health expert Dr Steele and
his brother Matt has played with the Brand New Heavies and Errol Brown.
Andrew is also a keen linguist and is fluent in 4 languages.
2010
is a comeback year for Andrew and he is part of the GB squad going to
the European Championships in Barcelona. He is also a real prospect for
a medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi later this year and the
World Championships in 2011.
Andrew
is popular with the press for his articulate style and insight into
athletics and occasionally writes his own columns for regional press.
He is passionate about activity and healthy living in teenagers and
combines this with regular school visits in the North West. He also
works as a motivational speaker and has experience with global brands
as a sponsored ambassador.
