Goldie
Sayers is one of Britain’s leading field athletes. The world class javelin
thrower has progressed through the junior ranks and is now a British record
holder. As a double Olympian and 8 time National Champion she has an enormous
chance of securing a medal at the 2012 Olympics in London.
Goldie,
who has featured as the British number one for the past eight years and is
consistently ranked within the world’s top ten for her discipline, made her
first appearance at a major event at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
She then went on to win Gold at the European Cup in 2007 and has 8
National Championships in a row under her belt. A personal best of 65.75m at
the 2008 Olympics in Beijing saw her climb into the World top 5, experience
that has been greatly beneficial to Goldie as she bids to win an Olympic medal
in front of a home crowd in 2012. In 2010 Goldie won her eighth consecutive national title
– a record in the 130 year history of the AAA’s Championships.
Nicknamed
the ‘Suffolk Slinger’, Newmarket born Goldie now lives in Cambridge and
represents Belgrave Harriers, one of the leading athletics clubs in Britain.
Having gained a First Class Honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science from
Loughborough University, Goldie went on to get a diploma from the Institute of
Marketing.
Goldie is a woman of many talents. Before
making her name as a javelin thrower, she played hockey, tennis and netball for
Cambridgeshire and was national Under-11 champion at table tennis. Further to this
she is an exceptional and experienced motivational speaker specialising in
applying her sporting experiences to the business world. Her articulate and
intellectual demeanour makes her a popular spokesperson from corporations to
school children alike.
