Jack Laugher is the 17 year old Olympic diver who is widely being tipped to be the next star of British Diving. Jack trains at the City of Leeds Diving Centre and competes in the three and one metre Springboard competition. He was the first British diver to hold both the Junior World and European Championship titles in 2010 and is well position for great success at a senior level.
Jack is the current British Champion in all age groups and has laid down a marker in his first year on the senior circuit. He competed at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi and also at the World Championships in Shanghai. Jack finished eighth at the World Championships and competed at the London 2012 Olympics, all at the tender age of 17. Most recently at the World Junior Diving Championships in Australia, Jack outperformed the competition by a significant margin to win the three meter individual springboard competition and then returned a day later to claim his second gold of the championships with partner, Tom Daley in the three meter synchronised springboard competition. Jack ended his championships by adding a silver to his haul of medals in the one meter Springboard competition.
Jack is a huge talent and the experience gained from London 2012 has been invaluable and something that he will carry with him for the rest of his career. In 2011 Jack received recognition for his achievements by being nominated for the Young Sports Person of The Year award in the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
