Jazmin
‘Jazz’ Carlin is the Welsh swimming sensation who caused a stir by beating
teammate and Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington in the 400m Freestyle then
beating teammate and world silver medallist Jo Jackson in the 200m a day later.
In any other generation she would be the star of British freestyle swimming but
she is competing against the best swimmers in the world and is leading the
charge for medals at the Olympic Games in 2012.
After
helping the Great Britain team to a 4x200m Freestyle Relay medal at the 2010
European Championships in Budapest, Carlin ended a barren spell of 36 years for
Welsh female swimming medallists at the Commonwealth Games by striking 200m
Freestyle silver in a Welsh record time. A few days later, Carlin added to her
tally in India, becoming the first female Welsh swimmer in 80 years to win two
Commonwealth medals at one Games by scooping bronze in the 400m Freestyle.
Jazz
was first recognized when she won Bronze at the 2005 European Junior
Championships. She is a 5 time Welsh record holder and has also broken the U18
British records in the 200m & 400m freestyle. 2009 saw her win her first
senior medal at the World Championships and she has subsequently gone onto to
win medals at both the European Championships and Commonwealth Games.
Born
and raised in Swindon into a large sporting family Jazz now lives and trains in
Swansea. She is a qualified PT trainer and is enrolled on a Business &
Accountancy degree at Swansea University, whilst also coaching at local clubs
and schools in her spare time. Her nickname ‘Pitbull’ describes her tough
competitive nature and never surrender attitude that is the trademark of her
swimming.
Jazz
is a young, bright and effervescent individual respected by her peers. She is
fun and well-spoken with the media and enjoys public speaking and encouraging
people of all ages to exercise and get involved with swimming.
