Track and Road Cyclist
Rob, Triple Olympic Medallist and Double World Champion Cyclist, rides for Halfords Bike Hut road team. He is best known for his achievements in the Team Pursuit and Madison events. Rob’s career has seen
him develop from a young 1km specialist into a key cog in the endurance
team of the British Track Cycling Machine that now dominates the sport
worldwide. This track talent is coupled with a former career as a
European Professional on the road with the successful Cofidis team and
a huge commitment to put ‘something’ back into cycling with the
formation of Team KLR where Rob will mentor talented young riders on
the road to success
Rob has been part of a golden era for the Team GB Cycling squad, taking part at Atlanta, Sydney and Athens.
He
broke onto the scene in 1993 when he became National Kilometre
Champion. Several titles followed and he took the National Madison gold
medal in 1995.
In 2000 he broke onto the international scene
with Silver in the Track World Championships Team Pursuit and bronze in
the Individual Pursuit in Manchester. Bronze at the Sydney Olympics
followed shortly afterwards.
From 2001 to 2003 he joined the French Cofidis team cycling on the major Tours around Europe.
Rob
rejoined the British team in Stuttgart for the World Championships in
late 2003 and took a silver in the Team Pursuit. A year later in Los
Angeles he added the Individual Pursuit silver to add to another Team
silver.
It was double silver
again at the Olympics in Athens. When Rob and Bradley Wiggins fought
their way to second in the Madison; a great moment.
Finally, after
all the silver medals, Rob stood on the top step when he took gold in
the Team Pursuit in the Commonwealth Games in 2006.
