Sam
Oldham is a young and talented British gymnast who recently made his first
appearance at a senior Championship this year having just turned 18. Sam
competes in the ‘all-around’ discipline which involves mastering all of the
individual apparatus: Floor, High Bar, Vault, Pommel Horse, Parallel Bars and
Rings. It is the most demanding event of all in artistic gymnastics and Sam has
his eyes firmly set on laying down a marker in the world of gymnastics.
Sam
has an incredible aptitude and began his sporting career at the age of 8
playing football at the Nottingham County Football Club’s Centre of Excellence,
with offers from Nottingham Forest and Derby County Football Club, Sam’s adulation
for gymnastics shone through with his goal being the London 2012 games.
Sam
was crowned European Junior Champion in 2008 and went on to win two Gold medals
at the European Youth Olympics and three Gold medals at the 2010 European
Junior Championships. The 2011 European Championships in Berlin saw him make
his senior debut and Sam put in a performance of huge quality and maturity to
finish 4th. He is now on course to become one of Great Britain’s
greatest ever gymnasts and has got a great chance of achieving a medal at the
Olympics in 2012.
Sam
is being widely recognised for his achievements even at such a young age, he
won the BBC East Midlands Sports Personality of the Year award in 2008 and was
nominated in the top 10 for BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2010,
testaments to the reputation that Sam is building himself in the sporting
world. He has a colossal future ahead of him and is destined to stamp his mark
on the 2012 London Olympics and beyond.
His
profile is already growing with appearances on primetime television, ‘Olympic
Countdown Special- Ones to Watch’. He is a confident young man who is devoted
to his sport and his attitude and drive is exemplary. Sam is looking to deliver a lasting
relationship with a number of exciting brands in his journey to breaking the
boundaries of British Gymnastics. |
